The Alberta Legislature is possibly the most popular park in Edmonton! The classic sandstone building is surrounded by flower gardens, fountains and mature trees. You can't go wrong; it's a dazzling location for photos.
Photo shoots are not allowed inside. The grounds can be busy, especially on holidays, but there is lots of room to share.
The Government House shares grounds with the old museum building. This location is very popular for wedding photos due to an excellent blend of landscaping and architecture, providing lots of visual variety within a relatively small area.
The inside of the building is not available for photo shoots, but the porch area can provide some shelter if it rains.
Combine a photo opportunity with a charming activity - ride one of the Edmonton Radial Railway Society's lovingly restored streetcars across the High Level Bridge. The streetcar barn in Old Strathcona makes a great backdrop as well.
The streetcar only runs May to October. Book a charter trip so they can stop the car in your ideal photo location.
Perhaps Edmonton's most elegant location, the Fairmont Hotel MacDonald is very accommodating to their clients. Wonderful turn-of-the-century architecture and furniture as well as a carefully landscaped yard make this a classic choice for portraits, both inside and out.
All visits must be booked in advance.
Step back in time for a charming historical look to your portraits! Ride the steam train, visit the fair, or choose an historical era to experience. There's more variety here than you could ever use in one photo session!
Book an historical church for your wedding, or rent one of their other venues for events of all types!
The Heritage Centre is home to the City of Edmonton Archives and some historical displays. It also serves as an event centre. The exterior of the building features brick turrets and tall narrow windows that give it a castle-like feel.
Visiting the museum is free, booking for groups & events is available.
A personal favourite, each room in this historical home has a different feeling to it. The main entrance stairs, library, bedrooms and sitting room all have different historical looks – and the exterior is a stunning backdrop as well.
Large groups may find the space a bit snug. Advance booking required.
A few other historical locations to consider:
Old Glenora - Alexander Circle
Just across from Churchill Square and Edmonton City Hall, the AGA is a beautifully unique structure. The exterior is somewhat obstructed by traffic, but the inside is architectural artwork. Sweeping curved designs and unique materials create photo opportunities you won't find anywhere else.
You can book photography sessions or your entire event here.
The Lee Pavilion inside the Citadel Theatre is a large indoor garden featuring a 2-storey waterfall. Daytime
sessions are best as most of the interior light comes from the large windows overhead.
The lobby areas are
open for the public to enjoy, but photo sessions and events must be booked in advance.
Edmonton's City Hall is a bright, modern building with railings, pillars, and staircases that give many photo
opportunities. The front entrance overlooks a large fountain – which becomes an ice rink in the
winter!
Visiting is free, but events and professional shoots should be booked in advance.
Beautiful any time of year, the glass pyramids of Edmonton's Muttart Conservatory house hundreds of different
plants, water features, and paths through the greenery. The feature pyramid changes themes several times a year.
The surrounding park is open to the public, but indoor photos and events must be booked.
You might think Edmonton's space and science centre is the domain of kids until you imagine how romantic getting married under the stars can be. The Margaret Zeidler Star Theatre is dazzling when the lights go down, and the catering and banquet facilities are top-notch. The surrounding park is great for some outdoor photos as well.
The park (outside) is free, but indoor access requires advance booking.

When you want to show the North Saskatchewan River in your photos, but your client isn't dressed for climbing, try the boat launch! This is one of the few places where you can drive down to the water level.
The boat launch is part of Capilano Park which also has lovely pathways and tons of green space.
Easily accessible, the Nature Center's park area offers wide, quiet pathways and open learning areas among the trees which make great places to set up a photo shoot. The Prairie Pond area is perfect for groups on the bridge or near the water.
The Center's indoor areas are not typically available for photo sessions, but the park areas can be visited for free.
This park gets a special mention because it has a great view of Edmonton's downtown. These photos are from the more eastern end, and traveling west along Strathearn Drive offers a view overlooking Gallagher Park and the Muttart Conservatory.
Exit the 98th Ave traffic circle to the south along 85 Street, then turn in and backtrack along the top of the hill.

About 30 minutes from Edmonton, the "Devonian Gardens" cover 240 acres with botanical beauty and rich variety. The
Kurimoto
Japanese Garden is probably the most popular for wedding photos, but every area offers great beauty in
different styles and themes.
You can book group visits and events on the grounds.
The Enjoy Centre in St. Albert is a great location for receptions and events, but from a photographic standpoint it is somewhat limited by other patrons and busy backgrounds. It is still a handy indoor photo location, and the Lois Hole Park Day Use area is across the road if you want outdoor photos too.
Contact them for access details.
For photography, the park around this theatre is beautiful. Broadmoor Lake is surrounded by landscaped areas as well as pathways and bridges that provide beautiful backdrops. The theatre itself is also a wonderful all-in-one venue - you could get married on stage!
Park areas are free to use.
Fort Saskatchewan's historical district includes beautiful old buildings from the early 1900's including a schoolhouse, church, gazebo, and of course the NWMP fort – all of them provide great historical photo opportunities.
